National mathematics day is celebrated every year in India on December 22 to honor the memory of mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Ramanujan was born in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district on December 22, 1887. He showed a keen interest in mathematics from a young age and his brilliance was recognized by British mathematician G H Hardy when he was just 17 years old. Hardy took Ramanujan to Cambridge University where he worked on many groundbreaking theories including the Ramanujan prime and theta function.
