Shape Hurdle Race

On occasion of National Maths Day children of Pre-Primary played shape hurdle race in which 2D shapes such as Triangle, Circle, Rectangle, Square were hanged and hurdles were placed. Children had to cross the hurdles to reach the correct shape according to the properties told by the teacher. One who reaches first will be the winner. It helps in critical thinking and kinesthetic development. Few pictures have been shared below.

National Mathematics Day (22 December)

National mathematics day is celebrated every year in India on December 22 to honor the memory of mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.


Ramanujan was born in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district on December 22, 1887. He showed a keen interest in mathematics from a young age and his brilliance was recognized by British mathematician G H Hardy when he was just 17 years old. Hardy took Ramanujan to Cambridge University where he worked on many groundbreaking theories including the Ramanujan prime and theta function.

Weighing balance (Mass)

 Children of pre primary were introduced the concept of Mass by showing them balancing scale. Children measured different objects by using balancing scale and tried to find out which object is heavy and which is light.

Capacity

Capacity was introduced to the kids through a hands on activity wherein different capacity containers were shown to the kids and they filled water in those containers. Containers were of different sizes to understand in which container more water will be there and in which container less water will be there. children understood the concept of capacity with this hands on activity.

Ordinal Numbers Activity

Balancing race was conducted for students of pre-primary. Students kept books on their head and started walking towards the finish point. The one who finished was the first, then second , then third and so on. This way they got to understand ordinal numbers first, second, third etc in a play way method.

Tens and ones

Group of children were made in which 10 children were made to stand in one group representing tens and rest in another group representing the ones. Children themselves were able to identify the two digit number by segregating into tens and ones.
